The 2018 season kicked off in fine form with a number of new families joining the HJDBC family over the new years break. Our new member co ordinator has been inundated with kickstart applications and we are now running our 3rd kickstart course for the year with one more scheduled next month. All of this is great news for the club as we did farewell a number of riders last year as they moved onto other forms of racing. We also have a new enthusiastic committee who are all ready to help out in 2018 which is also great for the club.
Our day kicked off with approx 30 riders ready to challenge themselves and get back into the regular groove of competition. With the bacon sizzling away in the background, parents and kids all went about the usual morning routines and started queuing up for riders ‘sign on’ & all bikes were lined up as scruitineering commenced at 8.30am followed by riders briefing at 9.15am.
This year welcomes a number of new riders across all classes with 65cc hosting the biggest number of the day with a total of 10 and other groups not far behind however 50cc was our smallest group today with a total of 3 riders.
After riders briefing, the groups were allocated their events for the day and marshals were given a quick run down of the rules for each event. The conditions were pleasant in the morning with a nice cloud cover and a light sprinkling of rain the night before but unfortunately it wasn’t to last as the the cloud cover went away and the temperature started to climb.
Some great riding was displayed throughout the morning along with some struggles here and there that is to be expected with a number of riders trying to come to grips with the dry sandy conditions and also those that have stepped up to bigger bikes.
So far things were running smoothly with 6 x events completed by 11.30am which allowed enough time for riders to have a quick stop at the pits to re-hydrate and then complete 2 x sighting laps of the Minicross track all before 12pm.
The canteen was once again cooking up a storm with BBQ snags and burgers on offer, thanks to all the hard work put in by our canteen staff. After a well earn’t break riders were once again keen to get back out on track and get the afternoon minicross session underway and it was our demo riders Harper & Katie leading the charge followed by the rest of the gang.
We had 2 x action packed motos with some very tight racing and the results for the day are as follows:
50cc Auto - 1st Charlie #23
Miniwheels - 1st Jacob #19
65cc - 1st Ben #580
85cc - 1st Declan #91, and
Junior Big Wheels - 1st Max #255
Well done to all riders who competed on the day and thanks to all the marshals and officials with a special thanks to Carlie & Jeff for helping out as our Race Sec & Steward for the day. Check out some action shots here.
Our next competition round is on 4th March...we look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Gates open at 8am. Go Hornsby!
