Hornsby kicked off the 2020 competition with the first of eight club rounds on a fantastic riding day … not too hot, not too wet. Who’d have thought it still summer in Sydney!
We think today marked a possible record for the club; fifty-two riders across all six classes (7 Demo; 4 50cc; 11 MiniWheel; 7 65cc; 12 85cc and 11 JBW). So many riders and supporters makes for a massive day, and the canteen team worked hard to keep all fed whilst trying out new menu items and variety like chicken schnitzel rolls for lunch. Thanks Rose and team! We also did something new-ish today in that we kept the event areas open for those who wished to practice when they had finished their Minicross event. Good work for those that took that up. Results for the day were: Nippers: #20 Jaxen #46 Matteo #100 Hudson #259 Skye #690 Emerson #832 Cooper #869 Caylan 50cc - 1st #25 Tyla MW - 1st #230 Andy 65cc - 1st #116 Josh 85cc - 1st #11 Nathan JBW - 1st #04 Kye A full list of the days results from Harry can be found here. Find the latest PDF version of results in the 2020 directory. Check out the new leaderboard summary format that Harry's worked out. After each event the Leaderboard file will be updated, and a separate PDF for the day added to the folder. You can also browse some photos from the day here. Thanks to Jo and others for taking these whilst I was elsewhere today. Because many continuing riders changed classes and bikes for 2020, competition was fresh. T’was interesting to see which events had the highest incidents of black flags: In Footed Clover & Accelerate & Brake 27% of riders flagged; Slow 47%; Ring Return 49%; Bending 64% and Looping 87%. What will you practice at the next practice day on Sunday 8th March? --Steve Hornsby hosted another kick start Sat. 22 Feb, where we had 8 riders made up of six nippers and two 65cc.
We arrived at the club to find we had received quite a lot of rain overnight and the rain continued to fall whilst we set up for the day. There were lots of puddles and it was very very slippery. It continued to rain whilst we conducted the theory part of the course. Fortunately the rain eased to just a sprinkle just in time for the kickstarters to ride. We had Sienna #32, Charlie #24 and Beau #98 expertly show the new riders the basics of how to ride their bikes and they had a fun time riding through every puddle they could find. We spent time practicing our braking and bike handling skills in the event areas as well as doing some drills around cones. After much deliberating we deemed the minicross track far too wet and dangerous so the riders were confined to the event areas for the day, where they enjoyed themselves in the conditions. The riders certainly got a taste of what it’s like to ride in wet weather and they did an awesome job of staying upright and safe. Everyone successfully passed with flying colours and had lots of fun despite the trying conditions. A big thanks to the boss man George, Kevin J, Charlie, Sienna and Beau for helping out today. Some photos from the day can be found on the club Smugmug site here. -Rod. What a fabulous (delayed) start to the 2020 season Hornsby peeps! After having to cancel one practice day due to 40º+ temperatures, and a kickstart due to hundreds of millimetres of rain, the weather gods were kind to us and we took advantage!
Forty five riders took to the track from thirty one different families. Welcome back to previous members, and we welcome Abigail, Lachlan, Flynn, Ethan, Caylan, Mitchel, Beau, Chase, Oliver, Oscar, Anish, Neil and Cooper as thirteen of the new members to the club this year. We look forward to seeing what you can all do this year! As happens in a new year, some riders have moved up a class and there’s definitely a new mix this year. There were eleven riders in the 85cc class today … phew! In typical practice day form, we embraced a bit less formality and the riders relished being able to practice the discipline that they felt they’d like to brush up on. Accelerate & Brake, Orange, Looping, Bending, Footed Clover, Ring Return and Slow all got a run, plus some enduro to spice things up. And as per normal at Hornsby, Minicross was served up after lunch. Special mention to Rosemary and team who have taken over the canteen this year and if their first run was anything to go by, in fine Hornsby tradition, we’re up for some tasty food this year. Steve’s put photos from the day into the Clubs Smugmug site here, where photos from other practice and competition days can be found. As George mentioned today, please to respond to Jo’s text messages about impending rides, with whether or not you’re coming. Your response helps us plan catering amongst other things, and helps ensure the day is as enjoyable as it can be. And if you did not receive a text on 12 Feb about today, please let Jo know on 0490 456 485.
Thanks to Kevin, Anthony, Rod/Beau, George, Steve, Grant/Max, Peter, Nathan/Summer-Rose & Josh who braved the 41º heat to re-rope event area 2, the MX start-line and Accelerate and Brake, as well as reshaping some jumps, strapping tyres, blowing and cleaning. We’re that much closer to being ready for the Practice Day on 16th Feb, and the 1st Comp. day on 23rd Feb. But ... there’s another Working Bee next weekend (Feb 9th) where you get to not only help make the place better and safer for your kid(s), you can watch the Kickstart that will be happening that day too. Whoo hoo! See you there! https://hjdbc.smugmug.com/20200201/
