The 2017 Minikhana State Titles were held on the weekend of October 21/22nd at the Nepean Raceway home of the Penrith Minibike Club with 7 events being held on Saturday and 5 more on Sunday. Hornsby were not only well represented but came away with great results. Overall Hornsby was represented by 22 riders and took home 19 first place medals, 27 second place medals and 19 third place medals with some riders finding themselves on the podium (see below) and two of our riders earning themselves a place on the podium as state title runners up. Well done Kye #04 who took out third place in the state in Miniwheels and Will #48 who took out second place in the state in BW85. The track was very wet in sections after heavy rainfall on Friday leading up to the event. This resulted in some challenging and interesting events first up, sometimes the lane you were drawn determined how many boggy puddles you needed to negotiate. Looping is challenging at the best of times but in the muddy conditions on Saturday there were no medals across all clubs in this event this year. Start and Park is an event the Hornsby riders are not used to and this was also run on Saturday. This event involves riders leaving their bikes and running to the finish. It was good entertainment for the spectators and some of our riders placed in this event which was a nice surprise. The other 5 events for the day included ring bending, accelerate and brake, mini cross, footing clover and slow. The events kept everyone busy for the day, including all our wonderful marshalls. The kids and parents gathered for a BBQ lunch before completing more events in the afternoon. As well as the debriefing about their events the kids were entertained with goats and ‘Fred’ the donkey on one side of the fence and the flat track riders on the other. By Sunday morning the track had dried out and the need for gumboots had eased. Five more events were run including; non footing clover, orange, ring return, bending and acceler8. The A grade 85 riders finished the day with their mini cross event and all riders and parents watched and cheered on as riders tussled for their place in the race. There was a lot of passing and some very impressive riding from all 85 riders which created a fun afternoon for all. What was most special about watching was that ALL kids were cheering on their own club riders but also supporting and encouraging riders from the other clubs. To see young riders giving their senior riders high fives and looking up to them was a great way to end the day. What would an interclub be without a raffle? The weekend was wrapped up with the presentation and raffle. Rider #151 Jack not only placed in the series (see below) but also took out half the raffle prizes! Whether placing in the top three for the day or just experiencing an interclub in a new grade, all our riders came away with a smile and some only missing out on a podium place by a few points. The State Titles were without a doubt a successful experience and overall the Hornsby club finished up in 5th position which was a great effort! Check out some action shots here! With a little rain through the week and some very light drizzle on the day Sunday saw slightly damper track conditions greet our 25 Hornsby riders that attended Round 3 of Series 2 as they endured a whopping 11 events for the day to get them ready for the State Titles coming up next weekend. Thanks to the abundance of helpers, with all hands on deck, we completed the following events before lunch and still managed to do 2 rounds of mini cross in the afternoon; bending, ring bending, orange, looping, ring return, slow, accelerate and brake, acceler8, footing clover and non footing clover. Harper was our only nipper this week and enjoyed joining in with the big kids. Some of our riders new to 50cc Auto enjoyed the competitive level and were quoted as saying it was the "best day ever!" With such a large amount of events to get through some classes were finished ahead of others which left for some great entertainment as riders were able to sit and watch other classes battling it out on event area 1 for some crucial championship points. After lunch saw the bikes hit the track for the afternoon minicross session and it didn’t take long for any moisture that was left in the ground to dry up as riders blasted their way around the track. There were plenty of riders making the most of the conditions while other riders were caught out in the slippery sandy sections. The competition was fierce but the sportsmanship was evident and the riders enjoyed the company of their peers on and off the track. The final points for this round and the following round will be withheld from publishing and winners of the series will be announced at the presentation day held at Louee next month. Podium winners this week are: Nippers - Harper 50cc Beau #798 65cc Ben #580 Mini Wheels Jacob #19 85ccSW Sam #279 85cc BW Jack #151 A big thankyou to the parents, marshals and officials & riders for yet another great day of competition. Checkout the action shots here! We have the Minikhana State Tiles being held at Penrith next weekend on Saturday & Sunday 21st & 22nd October.
