Here is some information that may assist you with your decision making process: ABOUT US: As we are one of the smallest Minikhana clubs in NSW we pride ourselves on offering a friendly community environment for kids to ride. You can read more on the About Us page and the More About Us page.
LEARNING TO RIDE: Minikhana lets kids develop strong motorcycling skills in a fun, family atmosphere. However, if your child is brand new to motorcycling and they don’t have their own bike, you might consider some introductory lessons and bike hire as provided by organisations like the excellent Trailblazers in Sydney. See their website here.
PREVIEWS & PHOTOS: You are more than welcome to check out the club before you join. Come along around 9.30am, preferably on a practice day and ask for one of the committee members, who will go over everything with you. You can see lots of photos showing what we get up to on the at HJDBC.smugmug.com here.
MOTORBIKES: All members need to provide their own bikes and safety equipment. There are five classes of bike in Minikhana, plus Nipper/Demo that is non-competitive. You can find a summary here.
WHAT YOU NEED: For your child to ride at our club they need all of these: a) To be a member of HJDBC b) To hold a valid ‘Mini’ Motorcycling license from Motorcycling NSW c) Their own bike and safety equipment The way to get the riding licence is to complete the KICKSTART program we run at the Club, and then complete the necessary paperwork with Motorcycling NSW.
KICKSTART: All new members of our club are required to complete a kickstart program which is basically an introduction to the clubs rules, policies, safety procedure for both riders and parents. This is a requirement from Motorcycling NSW, our governing body. Dates for the Kickstart program are listed on our calendar here and see NEW MEMBER REGISTRATION below for information about what and how to do it.
ENDORSEMENT: Attached to the MSNSW license is an Endorsement for the type and size of bike your child will ride. You get this via the KICKSTART, but if at any point you move up a bike type/ size, your child will need to be endorsed for that bigger bike. You can refer to the MSNSW page for juniorendorsements and licenseconditionshere. Note moving from 85cc small wheel to Junior Big wheel does not require a new endorsement.
PARENT/ GUARDIAN PARTICIPATION: On any day that your child/children rides we expect a parent / guardian to be available to be a flag person or Marshall. As you could appreciate we are a small club and need all parents to get involved for the benefit of the kids. It’s not a difficult requirement and we will provide training to all parents.
NEW MEMBER REGISTRATION: Follow new_member_electronic_enrolment_procedure.pdf for a guide on how join the Club and to enrol and pay for your KICKSTART using the RiderNet website, which is a website operated by Motorcycling NSW.
MOTORCYCLING NSW LICENSE: After you've completed your KICKSTART, you'll be given the necessary paperwork and instructions for how to Purchase your 'Mini' recreational license from Motorcycling NSW.
RIDER NUMBER: Once you become a member of our club and have completed our KICKSTART program you will need to choose a rider number that will become your child’s unique club ID. This number will also be printed on their Club jersey that all riders must purchase and wear on ride days.
RIDE DAYS: We expect to have a total of about 20 ride days at Hornsby during the year subject to availability of volunteer officials. These days will be made up of Practice Days and Club Competition rounds. Once your child is a member of the club and licenced they can attend as many of these days as you choose. See our calendar here.
