We’ve talked about introducing a new role for two of our senior riders to be elected by their peers to represent the other riders in 2021. Riders eligible to be nominated for Club Captain are those fully paid member riders in the 85cc and JBW classes, as at the first competition day of the calendar year. Up to two Club Captains may be nominated from the rider members of the Club and voted in by the rider members of the Club – one from each of 85cc and JBW classes. Club Captains may nominate themselves or be nominated by their peers. In the case of being nominated by their peers, they must accept nomination before a vote takes place. Club Captain responsibilities include:
If your rider is in JBW or 85cc, talk to them about the role of Club Captain and encourage them to nominate themselves, or nominate who they think would be a great Club Captain. We will ask for nominees during rider briefing, and once we have nominees from each of JBW and 85cc we will run a vote by show of hands to vote in the Captains. Cheers --Steve

After this years' weather challenges, it was exciting to attend our first Minikhana competition event for 2021.
About 170 riders from five clubs came together for seven different Minikhana disciplines: Minicross; Footed Clover; Ring Return; Bending; Orange; Looping; and Accelerate Brake. See BHJMTC's results post here, and HJDBC photos here hjdbc.smugmug.com. Congratulations to all who medaled and/ or podiumed, and to those from Hornsby able to attend. And special mention to those attending their first Interclub; spread the word to other new members of the Hornsby family about how much fun Interclubs are. You now have two events in Ridernet to register for:
Plus, if you're interested in some great coaching for MiniCross, Michel from Racepace (www.racepace.com.au) is running a clinic on Sat 22 May that's open to all riders from all Minikhana classes 50cc and up. Book with Racepace direct, not though RiderNet, and not through HJDBC. Note for your planning that if you do attend RacePace, we have a Competition day the very next day, Sun 23 May. All dates in hjdbc.com.au/calendar. Lastly, one last reminder about the KICKSTART running this Sat 24 April. There are still spots available, so if you know someone who wants to get into the wonderful world of Minikhana, you need to act now. Contact info.hjdbc@gmail.com today. See you in two weeks. --Steve Hi all

Forty Five riders practiced the events that will feature at the upcoming Baulkham Hills Interclub on April 18, and readied themselves in mind, body and bike for the big day. Photos from the day in Smugmug as usual here. Next riding event is the Baulko Interclub - use this link to register if you have not already. See you on Sunday! — Steve Sorry we had to postpone on the weekend, but riders’ safety is a paramount concern. A refund of your registration fee will be processed via RiderNet shortly. The club calendar at link has been updated: Sun 2 May is now S1R1, and Sun 23 May has been changed from a Practice Day to be S1R2. No further changes at this time to the schedule for March or April. Next ride day is the Baulkham Hills InterClub at Horsley Park this Sunday. REGISTRATIONS FOR THIS CLOSE THURSDAY 18 MARCH AT 9PM. Use this link to register in RiderNet. If you want to see what the Baulko InterClub is like, see these photos here. After that, we have practice days scheduled on Sun 28 Mar (register here), and Sun 11 April. Based on the smiles from riders and parents alike, our third practice day for the year was a success. Great weather; foggy as we drove in; clearing to a brilliant sunny day. About 52 riders honed their Minikhana skills in preparation for our first points day in two weeks time (tip: You can register for this now in Ridernet (link here).
Photos from the day are at hjdbc.smugmug.com as usual. Many thanks to Kelly Fraser for the Chocolate Brownies which were totally sold out from the canteen, to Dale, John and Jason for the food includng the great Burgers, for Kev Joyce for assisting you all to make the most of the carpark space we have, and to all the volunteers that make the day work, including all of the parents for helping us make the marshalling process do what it is supposed to do. A reminder too: The first interclub for the year is one week after our points day, on 21 March, hosted by Baulkham Hills, at their facility at Horsley Park. You can also register for this now, in RiderNet (link here). — Steve SO FAR … We hope you’ve enjoyed the events of ’21 so far. A kickstart for 12 new members in January; and two practice days with nearly 50 riders each time; perfect riding weather, and lots of smiles. We’re learning as we go, but operating our fantastic club is coming together. And George, Rod and Beau conducted another kickstart today! More photos at hjdbc.smugmug.com.
REGISTRATIONS & SIGN-ON Registrations are now open in RiderNet for the next practice day, on Sunday 28 Feb. Please note the following changes that we’re executing to make riding safer, and our (volunteer) lives easier:
NATIONAL PARK GATE The green gate at the bottom of Belmont Road needs to stay shut. We have serious problems with our lease if other cars (bushwalkers etc) come in and park. Please help us prevent this happening. PARKING We are not allowed to park outside our grounds. Please don’t. We’ll tape the area off from now on. To maximise the space we have, please park tightly in the normal carpark. CLUB CAPTAINS We’ve talked about introducing a new role for two of our senior riders to be elected by their peers to represent the other riders in 2021. Cheers 2021 Committee Whoo hoo. It’s been so hot. And its been so wet. We managed to sort of have neither for our first Club ride day for 2021; perfect riding weather.
47 riders (many of them new to HJDBC) fired up their machines at 0930 and set to on their Minikhana skills: Orange, Right-Footed Orange; Bending, Right-Footed Bending and Bending Orange(!!); Slow; Figure of Eight and Clover all got a run. There was even a little sly Enduro. Hats off to Chefs Dale and John for keeping us fed! Mark at XpressoHornsby is always welcome too! Thanks to Jas and John for some impromptu drainage works. Registration was a little slower than normal as we dealt with lots of first time issues. Expect things to be faster next time. After lunch the Minicross track got a workover, with all riders “riding to conditions and focussing on practice, not racing”. Lots of fun. Photos are as usual at hjdbc.smugmug.com. —Steve After last year’s disruption, we’re looking forward to a full 2021. Have you checked out our CALENDAR yet (here)? There are 16 ride days at the Club (8 Practice Days & 8 Competition Days), and another 9 Interclubs. And it all kicks off next Sunday, 31 Jan.
If you’ve not yet renewed your membership and intend to do so, now is the golden moment. Jump onto RiderNet to RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP. PRACTICE DAYS kick off at 8am Sun 31 Jan and RiderNet is the only way to register. Open now. Use this link to register. Scrutineering will check your bikes and equipment; ensure you have handlebar ends in place, no kickstands on any bike other than Nipper/ Demo class bikes, and your brakes and engine cut-outs work. Oh, and don’t forget the Aerogard. If you rode last year and are moving up from Nipper/50cc to 65cc, or Miniwheel/65cc to 85cc, you’ll need an ENDORSEMENT for your licence to ride that new bike. George’s emails to you refer. Endorsement day this Sat 30 Jan. Book on RiderNet here. If you need a HORNSBY JERSEY (like this) ‘cause you’re new to the club or you’ve outgrown your current one, WE WILL TAKE ORDERS AT THE PRACTICE DAY SUN 31 JAN. We hope (but cannot guarantee) to receive them by the competition days in March. If you miss this order, we’ll take another at the end of February. Lastly, running your club needs OFFICIALS. There’s a Clerk of Course seminar on 6th of February, and a Scrutineer seminar on the 7th of February. If your rider is young, we look forward to a long relationship with you and your child. Please consider stepping up and becoming an official. We’re happy to answer your questions. See you this weekend! Harry and the 2021 Committee |
