SO FAR … We hope you’ve enjoyed the events of ’21 so far. A kickstart for 12 new members in January; and two practice days with nearly 50 riders each time; perfect riding weather, and lots of smiles. We’re learning as we go, but operating our fantastic club is coming together. And George, Rod and Beau conducted another kickstart today! More photos at hjdbc.smugmug.com.
REGISTRATIONS & SIGN-ON Registrations are now open in RiderNet for the next practice day, on Sunday 28 Feb. Please note the following changes that we’re executing to make riding safer, and our (volunteer) lives easier:
NATIONAL PARK GATE The green gate at the bottom of Belmont Road needs to stay shut. We have serious problems with our lease if other cars (bushwalkers etc) come in and park. Please help us prevent this happening. PARKING We are not allowed to park outside our grounds. Please don’t. We’ll tape the area off from now on. To maximise the space we have, please park tightly in the normal carpark. CLUB CAPTAINS We’ve talked about introducing a new role for two of our senior riders to be elected by their peers to represent the other riders in 2021. Riders eligible to be nominated for Club Captain are those fully paid member riders in the 85cc and JBW classes, as at the first competition day of the calendar year. Up to two Club Captains may be nominated from the rider members of the Club and voted in by the rider members of the Club – one from each of 85cc and JBW classes. Club Captains may nominate themselves or be nominated by their peers. In the case of being nominated by their peers, they must accept nomination before a vote takes place. Club Captain responsibilities include:
Cheers 2021 Committee Whoo hoo. It’s been so hot. And its been so wet. We managed to sort of have neither for our first Club ride day for 2021; perfect riding weather.
47 riders (many of them new to HJDBC) fired up their machines at 0930 and set to on their Minikhana skills: Orange, Right-Footed Orange; Bending, Right-Footed Bending and Bending Orange(!!); Slow; Figure of Eight and Clover all got a run. There was even a little sly Enduro. Hats off to Chefs Dale and John for keeping us fed! Mark at XpressoHornsby is always welcome too! Thanks to Jas and John for some impromptu drainage works. Registration was a little slower than normal as we dealt with lots of first time issues. Expect things to be faster next time. After lunch the Minicross track got a workover, with all riders “riding to conditions and focussing on practice, not racing”. Lots of fun. Photos are as usual at hjdbc.smugmug.com. —Steve After last year’s disruption, we’re looking forward to a full 2021. Have you checked out our CALENDAR yet (here)? There are 16 ride days at the Club (8 Practice Days & 8 Competition Days), and another 9 Interclubs. And it all kicks off next Sunday, 31 Jan.
If you’ve not yet renewed your membership and intend to do so, now is the golden moment. Jump onto RiderNet to RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP. PRACTICE DAYS kick off at 8am Sun 31 Jan and RiderNet is the only way to register. Open now. Use this link to register. Scrutineering will check your bikes and equipment; ensure you have handlebar ends in place, no kickstands on any bike other than Nipper/ Demo class bikes, and your brakes and engine cut-outs work. Oh, and don’t forget the Aerogard. If you rode last year and are moving up from Nipper/50cc to 65cc, or Miniwheel/65cc to 85cc, you’ll need an ENDORSEMENT for your licence to ride that new bike. George’s emails to you refer. Endorsement day this Sat 30 Jan. Book on RiderNet here. If you need a HORNSBY JERSEY (like this) ‘cause you’re new to the club or you’ve outgrown your current one, WE WILL TAKE ORDERS AT THE PRACTICE DAY SUN 31 JAN. We hope (but cannot guarantee) to receive them by the competition days in March. If you miss this order, we’ll take another at the end of February. Lastly, running your club needs OFFICIALS. There’s a Clerk of Course seminar on 6th of February, and a Scrutineer seminar on the 7th of February. If your rider is young, we look forward to a long relationship with you and your child. Please consider stepping up and becoming an official. We’re happy to answer your questions. See you this weekend! Harry and the 2021 Committee Great effort today peeps for the (hot) Working Bee.
Thanks to people from thirteen families who came along today (Adorna; Apostolatos; Cacayorin; Clarke; Collins; Giacometti; Jackson; Johnson; Kramer; Leech; McKewin; Severino; Young). Big call out to Andy for stepping in for Josh C who couldn’t make it today, and for the efforts from Andy, Jas and John for the water tank area, Andy on Shipping Container repairs, and all for slogging away in the heat. We got just about everything on the list done. Looking forward to the Kickstart Endorsement day next Sat Jan 30, and our first practice day on Sun Jan 31.
54 riders revved up for only our 3rd competition day of bat-flu. riddled 2020: 14 Nippers; 7 50cc; 10 miniwheels; 6 65cc; 10 85cc and 7 JBW. We got through Footed Clover, Figure 8, Slow, Ring Return, Orange and Bending before Lunch, and two rounds of MiniCross in very dusty conditions, under a bright sun. Beaut. day!
Photos are up on hjdbc.smugmug.com; results at hjdbc.com.au/results. See you at the Sports Committee Minikhana event 17-18 October! Thanks for observing our COVID-19 plan today Hornsby peeps. What a great practice day. Great weather, and fifty two riders who were keen to be back on the track. Including a raft of recent kick-starters. Welcome!
As George said in his briefing, do not forget to keep an eye on our calendar. It’s changing this year faster than you can say hotspot. Photos from today are up on Smugmug, our Club photo site. See you at the next events: Working Bee 🐝 on Saturday 19 Sept, and Practice Day 🌟 on Sunday 27 Sept. — Steve The weather was absolutely ideal for what was our 6th Kickstart Course for 2020. The cool winters morning paved the way for a beautiful sunny day.
We welcomed another 12 new riders to the club on various bikes from nippers on their 50cc bikes all the way up to 85cc machines. We powered through the theory and book work. As ever, everyone was super keen to get riding. Our demo riders Sam #150 and Beau #98 did a great job of demonstrating the correct techniques of riding. All the kickstarters were very competent at riding which made for lots of fun and lots of riding. Such was the skill that only one rider knocked one cone over when we set up our bending/slalom course, and that rider just happened to be a demo rider on a KTM, not mentioning any names.... Once we got out on to the mx track everyone cut plenty of laps. The parents armed themselves with yellow flags and had their first introduction to marshalling and keeping everyone safe. The smaller kids were really great to watch and were very comfortable mixing it with the bigger kickstarters. The track proved to be quite dry and dusty, it’s amazing how much it’s transformed in just a few weeks when at the last kickstart the puddles played havoc with the little bikes. All participants passed the course with flying colours, picked there new race numbers and checked out the club jerseys. That was more than likely the last kickstart course until December 2020 where we will start the process again in preparation for (hopefully a more ‘normal’) 2021. Photos at hjdbc.smugmug.com —Rod
We welcomed nine riders to a kickstart today. They enjoyed some better weather than when the event was last scheduled! Photos at hjdbc.smugmug.com.
